A Compact Silver Double Dorje for the Home Altar
This Silver Double Dorje, also known as the Vishwa Vajra or Double Vajra, brings the crossed form of two vajras into a size well suited to a home altar or personal shrine. Four vajra heads extend from a shared center toward the four directions, each worked in silver and brightened with semiprecious coral and turquoise.
The double dorje sits on a copper stand embellished with coral, turquoise and lapis lazuli, which gives the piece a balanced, colorful base. At 7.5 inches tall with its stand, it is small enough for a modest shrine or meditation table, yet detailed enough to stand as a focal point. It is handcrafted by artisans in Nepal, and its fine metalwork and hand-set stones show the care that goes into each piece.
Silver Double Dorje and Craftsmanship
The four arms of the double dorje meet at a central hub, and each one opens outward into a five-pronged vajra head: a central prong encircled by four curving outer prongs that join at the tip. The silver is shaped and finished by hand, and the outer prongs are worked in filigree, an open tracery of fine silver wire that lets light pass through the form. Red coral and blue-green turquoise are set along the prongs and decorative details, each stone placed individually by the artisan.
The copper stand is also decorated with filigree, which carries the delicate wirework of the vajra down into its base. It is set with coral, turquoise and lapis lazuli, and the deep blue of the lapis complements the brighter tones above. The pairing of silver and copper gives the piece a pleasing contrast of metals, while the shared filigree and stones make the two parts feel like one design.
At this smaller scale, filigree takes particular patience, because each strand of wire must be shaped and joined in a smaller space. The result is a piece that rewards a close look on an altar or in the hand.
The Symbolism of the Double Dorje
The dorje, or vajra, is a symbol of the awakened mind, indestructible and unchanging. When two dorjes cross at a single center, the form is called the natsok dorje in Tibetan and the vishvavajra in Sanskrit. Its four heads, pointing in four directions, express a sense of balance, stability and a steady foundation.
The double dorje is often connected with the all-accomplishing activity of Amoghasiddhi, one of the Five Wisdom Buddhas. It appears at the base of mandalas and is placed within the foundations of stupas, temples and statues when they are consecrated. Teachers and traditions explain its meaning in different ways, and no particular spiritual result is implied by owning or displaying this piece.
A Tradition of Himalayan Metalwork
Silverwork and stone setting have a long history in the Kathmandu Valley, where artisans have made ritual objects for Himalayan Buddhist communities for many generations. This double dorje is made by our artisans using these traditional hand methods. No specific workshop or lineage is claimed for it. What it carries forward is the craft itself, learned through practice and passed on from experienced makers to newer ones.
Use in Vajrayana Practice
In Vajrayana Buddhism, the double dorje represents a firm and protected ground. It is used in consecration and mandala practice, and many practitioners keep one on their shrine. Its exact use depends on your lineage and the teachings you have received, so it is best to ask your own teacher. It is equally welcome as a piece of sacred art, kept with respect on an altar or in a collection.
Altar, Meditation and Display Settings
With its compact size, this double dorje fits easily on a home altar, a small shrine, a meditation table or a display shelf. It can sit at the center of an altar on its own or alongside statues, offering bowls and other ritual items. Keep it in a clean, raised place, away from moisture. When moving it, hold it by the center or the stand rather than the prongs. To clean it, use a soft, dry cloth, and avoid water, perfume and chemical cleaners, which can dull the silver and harm the stones. Its place on an altar is aesthetic and cultural, and it does not produce spiritual energy or guaranteed protective effects.

Four Directions, One Center
The double dorje holds the idea of stability in a simple, balanced form: four arms reaching outward, all held by one center. In this compact piece, that form is expressed in silver, coral and turquoise above a jeweled copper base. On an altar, in a meditation space or in a collection, it is a fine example of traditional Nepalese craftsmanship.
